Desenberg Castle (Hessen – Germany); add-on for MSFS 2020

On a basalt cone 8 nm to the west of Kassel Calden airport and near to the town of Warburg you find the remains of the medieval Desenberg castle. Although fortifications probably existed as early as the 8th century, the castle was possibly founded in the 11th century and since then was owned by various noble families.

One of these families was the family “von Spiegel”, Spiegel meaning mirror. They have three mirrors in their coat of arms. This goes back to a legend, that once a knight was able to kill a dragon living on the basalt cone by showing the dragon his mirror image visible on the knight’s polished shield.

In the 15th and 16th century the castle fell into disrepair.
