SimFlyers Airport KIAD (Washington Dulles Intl) (FS2000/FS2002)

This package contains Washington Dulles Intl Airport (KIAD) main scenery for Microsoft(TM) Flight Simulator 2000 and 2002, scenery created by SimFlyers Associated.

Please note: For full experience of the scenery please also download and install the static scenery:

Please read this text before or while installing the scenery – at latest when experiencing problems.

1. Status of the software

This scenery is shareware. On installation you will be prompted to enter the Registration Key. If you don’t enter the correct key the scenery will be installed as demo version with a copyright note hanging in the air and on one of the terminal buildings, also runways are missing.

For a closer view at the scenery without these demo features and for ordering the Registration Key please visit our website

http://www.simflyers.net or Simmarket http://www.simmarket.com

 2. Features

This scenery of KIAD features:

– Accurate and detailed scenery of Washington Dulles Intl Airport (KIAD) including buildings, runways, taxiways and airport objects
– Realistic buildings and objects with full texturing
– Active Docking Gate System at the terminal parking stands
– Active jetway system at the terminals
– serviceArmada feature – supplying your aircraft when parked at the gate.

– Runways and taxiways including all markings and signs, with realistic lighting
– Documentation with airport map and background information about Washington Dulles yesterday and today

 3. Pre-installation

The setup needs to copy three specific texture files to your Main Texture folder and replace the old, original files with them.

The names of these textures are Runway00.r8, Runway06.r8 and Runway10.bmp.

Setup creates a backup of these files, named Runway00.rx, Runway06.rx and Runway10.bmx in the same folder. When uninstalling the scenery these files will not be touched (as also our Bari and Rome scenery need to access them).

If you want to restore the original files please locate runway00.r8, runway06.r8 and runway10.bmp in your folder [FS200/2002]Texture, delete them and rename the files runway00.rx, runway06.rx and runway10.bmx to runway00.r8, runway06.r8 and runway10.bmp

4. Installation:

Before installing or uninstalling this package please close all programs and applications.

a) Main scenery setup

Unzip the ZIP file into any directory you wish. You don’t have to create an extra folder as this will only be a temporary folder. The setup files can be deleted afterwards (until you want to de-install the scenery). Please do not run the setup program from within the WinZip window or from a network drive – please extract the files to your local HD and then run the setup.

Run SFSetup-KIAD2002.exe

This is the setup program.

The program checks if you have Flight Simulator 2000 and/or Flight Simulator 2002 installed and if all files of this package are in place.

It then will determine if you have any bit of KIAD installed in either version of Flight Simulator.

You will see information about the Flight Simulator versions found and if this scenery already is installed in either of them.

Now please select for which simulator you want to install/uninstall the scenery.

You may run this scenery in FS 2000 and FS 2002 at the same time – you only have to run the setup for each installation.

To install the full version please enter the registration key in the relevant field.

Please note!

The registration key is more tan 700 digits long, starting with the word “startofkey”, ending with “endofkey”.

Please do not try to type this key digit by digit manually!

Simply select the key from the order confirmation email or from Simmarket’s order webpage, copy it and paste it into our installer program. In the same turn you also might want to paste it into a text file to generate a backup of it.

Other than with earlier sceneries you won’t get an immediate feedback if the key is valid. If you have copied and pasted the key correctly then rest assured it will be OK.

Note on keys: SimFlyers keys now are personalized. When ordering a key this will be generated uniquely for you with your email address encrypted in the key. This will allow us to track back keys that are handed around on serialz sites to their origin. Some elements of this unique key will be embedded into the installed scenery files.

The setup program will automatically generate a new folder “SimFlyers” in your Flight Simulator directory with a sub-folder for KIAD. It will also create an entry in the Windows-registry and add the scenery to your Flight Simulator scenery library.

The files are encrypted and packed. Decrypting and unpacking will take quite a while. Please be patient, even if the progress bar stops for some seconds/minutes.

The computer does not hang – it still is working!

After installation the scenery is ready to fly. There is a new folder

[Flight Simulator]SimFlyersKIAD         where [Flight Simulator] is your FS 2000 / FS 2002 main folder

with subfolders

Scenery

Texture                                  The scenery files.

IMPORTANT!

Please do not add any subfolders to the SimFlyersKIAD  -folder. Otherwise setup may not be able to delete it on uninstall.

b) static scenery setup

We have received lots of requests from users who prefer to deactivate static scenery at our airports in order to give some relief to the system or due to other reasons.

We have considered this and therefore are offering static scenery as a separate scenery package.

For installation please download the packages (e.g. from our website) and install it AFTER INSTALLING THE MAIN SCENERY.

When opening FS 2000 / 2002s scenery library the static scenery must be at a position ABOVE the main scenery (otherwise it won’t be displayed).

Installation of the static scenery works the same way as installation of the main scenery.

After having installed the scenery please check back on our website http://www.simflyers.net for updates, bugfixes or additional files to download.

5. Upgrading from Demo Version to Full Version

Assuming you have a demo version of this scenery installed on your computer and have got yourself the registration key to upgrade to the full version.

Please do the following:

– Run the installer to uninstall the demo version.

– Run the installer a second time to install the full version (enter the registration key now).

Everything should happen automatically.

6. Documentation / gateGuide, jetDock and serviceArmada operation

For a documentation of this scenery and for further info about operation of the features please see the docu file. You can download this separately from our website

http://www.simflyers.net

This manual is in Adobe Acrobat format. This is a document reader program that is available for free at http://www.adobe.com – the link to the download page is http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

7. Deinstallation:

IMPORTANT!

Before installing or uninstalling this package please close all programs and applications.

For uninstalling simply start SFSetup-KIAD2002.exe again. Select the Flight Simulator version from which you want to uninstall the scenery.

The program will uninstall all files and remove any registry- and scenery.cfg – entries that it has created.

8. Framerates / optimizing your system:

Washington Dulles is a huge airport and this scenery is highly detailed. For some computer systems around this might be hard work to display everything properly and “by the way” make an aircraft fly. We therefore have taken great care in optimizing the scenery to achieve a good frame rate.

Anyway – we strongly recommend you first try this scenery in demo mode before ordering the registration key – just to avoid frustration in case of slow frame rate on your system.

For optimizing performance we mainly have worked with reducing visibility of objects.

So at greater distances from the objects you won’t see them anymore. The only reason for this is to give your system a bit relief from display work. However there are some settings that you should check in order to get everything properly displayed.

In FS 2000 please enter the menu “options – settings – display – image quality”. The most important sliders are the two ones on bottom right (scenery density settings).

In FS 2002 please enter the menu “options – settings – display -scenery”. The most important sliders are the two ones on bottom left (scenery complexity / dynamic scenery settings).

If you want to get all features displayed you need to set them to maximum values (“extremely dense”). Reducing them will reduce the detail and display quality of the scenery and one by one make certain features drop out. First the serviceArmada will vanish, the the active jetways, part of the static scenery and so on.

Please play with the sliders in this menu to achieve an optimum compromise between display quality and system speed. Most effect can be achieved by reducing the general visibility (bottom left slider) to 60 miles – usually this is way enough for flying.

The active jetways and serviceArmada only are displayed within a certain range. When viewing these features from an outside view, please use the following maximum viewing distances – you can adjust them via the Flight Simulator menu “views – view options”.

When viewing your parking stand from top down view please set a maximum distance of 830ft AGL altitude.

When viewing the scenery from spot plane view, please set a maximum of: Distance of 325ft, altitude 102 ft.

These values should be convenient for all types of aircraft.

9. AI traffic and dynamic scenery in FS 2002:

AI traffic: This scenery is compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002s AI traffic and “progressive taxi” feature. After having installed the scenery you should find a new menu entry in your FS 2002 airport list, “Washington Dulles Intl by SimFlyers”. Selecting this one should place you into the correct starting positions for this scenery.

Apart from that you also can get round any starting location problem by simply selecting one of our pre-programmed starting locations from the menu “Go To – Airport” – then click the button “search Add-On scenery”. This gives you a list with starting positions that exactly will put you into one of the correct locations.

Dynamic scenery: We have not included a dynamic scenery as such in this package. It does not make much sense including dynamic aircraft when FS 2002 offers AI traffic anyway – and demand for and interest in driving ground vehicles has been not overwhelming anyway. So we have tried to make the static scenery look as vivid as possible. We think we have achieved this quite well.

Please feel free to let us know your thoughts and comments about it. In case of any problems please check the support section of our website http://www.simflyers.net

We hope you’ll enjoy our scenery as much as we did when creating it.
